Pediatric chiropractic is similar to adult chiropractic in that babies have a spine and nervous system just like adults do. C-sections, forceps, and vacuum extractions have become so common during the birth process that it’s no surprise that kids are subluxated from the time they’re born. That’s why it’s important that every child should get checked. If we can get their spine checked early, they can adapt well. When you bring your child in, we won’t take X-rays (unless there’s been a traumatic event), but we will run the substation scan on them just as we do for adults. Our pediatric chiropractors will run some rollers on their back and put sensors on them. Smaller children can bring in a stuffed animal or an action figure. We show them what an adjustment is on one of their toys. For an autism case or sensory processing case, our doctors will ask that the parents come in early so he can talk to them one on one to get the child’s case history. Parents will complete the paperwork in advance of the appointment.
We use the same technique as we do for adults but with a much lighter force. Our young patients enjoy their adjustments and think they are fun. When kids get off the table, we always have a treat for them in the form of fish oil, multivitamins or stickers.
How long will it take for my child to get better?
It all depends on how long they’ve had the condition and how much trauma they had in their life when they were born.
